Wrong Oil Filter Causing Check Engine Light – DTC P0015

CONDITION: Check engine light illuminated following an oil change; DTC P0015 (“B” Camshaft Position – Timing Over-Retarded Bank 1) was retrieved. Vehicle equipped with a 2GR-FE engine.

CAUSE: Inspection of the oil filter revealed an incorrect filter cartridge had been used and was crushed during installation. This may have caused a restriction that affected oil pressure controlling the variable valve timing system.

CORRECTION:  The correct oil filter cartridge was installed, the codes were cleared and a road test was performed. Problem solved.
